Super easy to use

I tried out the Website to Markdown feature for a project and it worked really well. I needed to get some content for an LLM and it cleaned everything up nicely. It took me a bit to figure out the API key thing, but once I did, it was smooth sailing. No more manually copying and pasting, which is a lifesaver.

Useful tool, some quirks

I used Firecrawl's Crawl API to get some structured data for an AI agent. Overall, it was pretty effective at pulling the info I needed from a few different sites. The LangChain integration was a plus and made connecting it to my existing setup fairly straightforward. I did run into a small issue with one particularly JavaScript-heavy site where it struggled a bit to render everything perfectly, but for most pages, it was fine. The free tier credits were really helpful for testing it out before committing. Pricing seems fair for what you get, especially with the annual discount if you're planning long-term use.

Anyone tried using their API to convert PDFs to markdown? Does it actually work well or is it a bit wonky?

T Tom Silva 2 months ago
I've only done a few PDFs, but for simple ones it was surprisingly good. Kept formatting decent.

Do they handle JavaScript-heavy sites well? Like single-page applications that load content dynamically?

T Todd 1 month ago
Yup, definitely. That's one of its strong points, it renders JS.

They use a headless browser under the hood, so it handles dynamic content and JS just like a real browser would. No issues there for me.

Hey guys, thinking about signing up for Firecrawl. How much data can you actually pull with the free tier? Is it enough to like, test stuff out properly?

E Elena G. 1 month ago
Yeah, the free tier is pretty generous. Gives you enough credits to get a feel for it and run a few decent crawls without paying anything.

It's more than just a tiny 'try it out' amount. I actually built a small project with just the free credits. You can definitely test your use case.

Are there any promo codes floating around? I heard some open-source contributors get them.

J Josh 2 months ago
Sometimes they do campaigns. Haven't seen any general ones recently though.

Check their social media around big launch events or holidays. Or if you contribute to open source, might be worth reaching out, I think they have a program for that.

Is Firecrawl any better than Jina Reader? I'm trying to decide between them for my AI agent stuff.

R Raj Beaumont 2 months ago
I found Firecrawl's output for LLMs cleaner, personally. Less junk to sift through.

S Steve K. 2 months ago
They both have their pros. Firecrawl feels more purpose-built for getting LLM-ready data, while Jina is a bit more general web parsing. Depends on your specific needs but Firecrawl integrates really smoothly with Langchain/LlamaIndex.

How fast is the support if something breaks? Or do you just have to rely on docs?

N Nick Ito 2 months ago
Their docs are pretty good, but I've emailed them once for a billing question and got a response within a day.

I haven't had major issues but the community forum/Discord is also quite active if you need quick help from other users.

Thinking of going with the annual plan, is the 2 months free thing legit? Like, do you actually save a good chunk?

D David 2 months ago
Yeah it's legit. I switched to annual last year and it worked out to a decent saving.

For sure. It works out to about 17-20% off compared to paying monthly. If you're going to use it long-term, it's a no-brainer.
